Ongoing investment in state-of-the-art facilities at malting plant
NB Clark has assisted in delivering a substantial improvement project for Simpsons Malt in Berwick.
The project, focused on enhancing the infrastructure at Simpsons Malt’s Tweed Valley Maltings site, made excellent progress over a span of just four months, resulting in the completion of a new silo base – from mass excavation to concrete installation.
The Tweed Valley Maltings site in Berwick has been a cornerstone of operations for Simpsons Malt since 1963. Due to continuous investment and growth, it has evolved into the largest single malting site in the UK. Producing around 200,000 tonnes of malt annually, the site plays a vital role in supplying whisky distilleries across Scotland.
This £620k project to deliver a new circular silo base saw NB Clark carry out mass excavation works before installing a new drainage system, building and fitting steel rebar and cages and completing the project with a fresh concrete pour.
Duncan Clark, director at NB Clark, said, “We’re delighted to have delivered another successful project for our long-standing customer, Simpsons Malt.
“Our team’s expertise in civil engineering, groundworks and construction ensured a timely and precise completion of the new concrete base. It will serve as a sturdy foundation to hold the new silo, used to store the quality grains vital to the malting process.”
